Tom Brady Wins Again. This Time At Merchandise Sales
With NFL training camps kicking into high gear, pro football fans everywhere but New England are already getting excited for one of their favorite gridiron pastimes: hatin’ on New England Patriots Quarterback Tom Brady.
And now, they have another reason: Brady just ranked first in licensed merchandise sales on a list put together by the NFL Players Association, the labor organization representing pro footballers.
Tom Brady celebrates ranking first in NFL player licensed merchandise sales.
Released quarterly by NFL Players Inc., the NFLPA’s marketing and licensing arm, the list is based on total overall sales of a player’s licensed products. Product categories include men’s, women’s and youth game jerseys and T-shirts, player murals, figurines, matted and framed photos, bobbleheads, drinkware, jewelry, electronic device accessories and more.
NFL Players Inc. gathers the sales data from more than 80 NFLPA licensees, including Nike, Fanatics, Fathead, and more. In the end, the tally showed that Brady – as he usually does in Super Bowls – came out on top.
New York Giants fans might be quick to note that their quarterback Eli Manning is undefeated against Brady in Super Bowls, having beat five-time winner Brady head-to-head on two occasions. Still, when it comes to merchandise sales, Brady gave the youngest son of football’s royal family a spanking: Eli ranked 36th on the NFLPA’s list. Upside for supporters of Big Blue? Magic hands Odell Beckham Jr. cracked the top 10, coming in at number eight.
Eli Manning was confused about why he was so far
behind Brady on the list of licensed merchandise sales. (We kid, we kid…)
Perhaps not surprisingly, players from the uber-popular Dallas Cowboys dominated the rest of the top 10, propelled by the purchasing of fans who wistfully dream of the 1990s glory days while hoping the next 20 years will see more than the three playoff wins of the previous 20. Cowboys in the top 10 were: Running Back Ezekiel Elliot (2); Quarterback Dak Prescott (3); Receiver Dez Bryant (6); and Tight End Jason Witten (10).
Rounding out the top spots were: Oakland Raiders Running Back Marshawn Lynch (4); Seattle Seahawks Quarterback Russell Wilson (5); Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers (7); and Pittsburgh Steelers Receiver Antonio Brown (9).

It’s a great way to procrastinate responding to those emails you’re eager to ignore – and to practice swallowing humble pie in anticipation of Brady’s inevitable sixth Super Bowl victory in early 2018. We’re not gloating, btw. We’ll be chewing right along with you.
