Bud Light to Debut Branded Light-Up Beer Glasses

The New England Patriots are the NFL’s team of the 21st Century – the reigning Super Bowl champions who pulled off the most epic comeback in the big game’s history last year…the team with the greatest quarterback of all time…the team widely picked to win again and again, ad infinitum. Life couldn’t get any better, right? Wrong. In addition to their five Super Bowl titles since 2002, the Patriots will now be able to lay claim to having what might be the coolest beer glass in the NFL.

Bud Light plans to distribute 65,000 Patriots-branded pint glasses to fans attending Thursday night’s opening game of the NFL season between the Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA. The real kicker? The “Bud Light Touchdown Glasses” will light up every time the Patriots score a touchdown this season.

All teched-up, the glasses work in a conjunction with a mobile application. Imbibers simply download the app to Android or iPhone, pair the phone with the app, make sure the phone is within 30 feet of their sudsy victual, and then boom – lights to celebrate every touchdown. The glasses feature the Patriots logo and a reference to the Pats being “5X” Super Bowl champs. The glasses also feature additional messaging: “Proud to Call You Champs And Friends. Cheers, Bud Light.” The Bud Light Touchdown Glass is manufactured by BuzzConnect with data powered by STATS LLC.

In a moment sure to delight Patriots’ fans and irritate the heck out of everyone else, attendees of Thursday’s game will have the chance to participate in a once-in-a-lifetime ceremonial toast as their illuminated Touchdown Glasses will shine in Patriot's blue when the Super Bowl LI banner is unveiled in the stadium for the first time.

If you’re a Pats fanatic who won’t be attending Thursday night’s opener, fear not: Bud Light plans to sell 28,300 of the Touchdown Glasses for $18 each at BudLight.com/touchdown. You guessed it, clever football aficionado: The “28,300” is a “wink-wink, nudge-nudge” to the Patriots overcoming a 28-3 deficit in Super Bowl LI.

Act fast: Supplies aren’t likely to last long – especially if a moneyed New York Jets fan decides to swoop in and buy the lot of them just so he can hide them away in a blackhole-dark, subterranean vault where the constant lighting of the glasses won’t drive him insane.
