Recall On Staples Chairs
Staples, Inc., parent company of Top 40 distributor Staples Promotional Products (asi/120601), has issued a recall on Hazen Mesh Task chairs. Legs on the base of the chairs can break, resulting in a fall for users. The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall Tuesday, saying Staples has received 20 reports of chair legs breaking. The CPSC added that there have been three reports of people sustaining minor cuts and bruises.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall Tuesday, saying Staples has received 20 reports of chair legs breaking. “Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled chairs and contact Staples to receive a free replacement base and instructions for replacing the original base,” the CPSC said in a statement.
Manufactured in China, about 124,000 of the Hazen Mesh Task chairs sold between October 2014 and April 2017. Priced between $100 and $180, the chairs retailed at Staples’ stores nationwide and online at staples.com, staplesadvantage.com and quill.com.
According to the CPSC, the chairs feature a five-wheel base, black fabric seat cushion, and black mesh seat back. They also bear SKU number 1058246 and item number 26680 on a white label on the underside of the seat cushion.

With estimated 2015 North American promotional product sales of $554.1 million, Staples Promotional Products ranked 1st on Counselor’s most recent list of top industry suppliers as determined by revenue. In May, Staples Inc. reported total first quarter sales declined 5%, to $4.1 billion, compared to the same quarter the prior year.
