Strategy January 28, 2015
Promotions Planner
Plan creative campaigns three months out.
May 2015
National Good Car-Keeping Month
Connect with automotive service centers for promotions that highlight the value and safety of good vehicle maintenance. Pitch banners, car chargers, ice scrapers, proof-of-insurance holders, auto-safety kits and more.
Motorcycle Safety Month
Use products that bear messaging that promotes safe riding to help motorcycle brands, dealerships and customizers encourage customers to ride wisely. Think key fobs and stress relievers shaped like helmets. Go a step further with logoed picture frames that say something like "There's a lot riding on you riding safe"; riders can put pictures of loved ones in these.
National Physical Fitness And Sports Month
This month-long initiative aims to promote fitness activities and programs (www.fitness.gov). Gyms, yoga studios, personal trainers and more can capitalize on the fitness fervor with promotions that include fast-drying towels, water bottles, moisture-wicking caps and sweatbands.
Healthy Vision Month
Partner with ophthalmologists and eyewear retailers on initiatives that promote how important it is for people to protect their vision (www.geteyesmart.org). Consider pitching logoed eyewear holders to retailers who sell sunglasses; they can provide the holders as complementary gifts or add-on sale items to customers who buy a new pair of shades.
May 3-9 National Pet Week
Pet stores, shelters and veterinarians can contribute to this week's aim of promoting responsible pet ownership with items like leashes, scoopers, doggie scarves and pamphlets on pet health (www.petweek.org).
May 10-16 Police Week
Tens of thousands of law enforcement officers converge on Washington, D.C. to participate in this week-long event, presenting distributors with ample opportunity to pitch giveaway ideas (www.policeweek.org). Locally, talk to township and borough managers about product options you can provide municipalities to give to the officers who protect them.
May 19 National Hepatitis Testing Day
Nonprofits, public health organizations and more make it their mission to raise awareness about viral hepatitis – and to encourage testing (www.hepatitisfoundation.org). Help them achieve their aims by providing signage, awareness ribbons, stickers, buttons, logoed information pamphlets, pens and more.
May 27 National Senior Health & Fitness Day
More than 1,000 events in all 50 states are held to promote the value of fitness and exercise for older adults. Provide pedometers and other products for events in your area and look to partner with senior centers launching fitness initiatives for members.
May 1 New Homeowner's Day
Realtors can send handwritten notes and home gifts like pot holders, spatulas, tongs and more to clients who have purchased a new house from them within the last year – a great way to generate referrals. Arrange the notes and gifts in a logoed package for maximum effect.
May 6-12 National Nurses Week
Help hospitals, health networks and doctors' offices thank the nurses that give so much to their organizations during this appreciation week with items like power banks, Bluetooth headphones, quarter-zip performance pullovers and more (www.nursingworld.org). For something really special, try partnering with larger health networks to create a custom gift.
