Giving Back Is Key at ASI

The Advertising Specialty Institute has an employee-led Charity Initiative that helps steer giving projects throughout the year. Currently, the initiative is running a clothing drive to benefit Cradles to Crayons and The Wardrobe. The company also launched ASI Community Service Day on Feb. 2 this year, offering onsite and off-site community service and education opportunities for employees, including community cleanups, soup kitchen volunteering and assembling caring bags for homebound seniors those experiencing homelessness.

In addition, this year, ASI facilitated employee donations to ACCT Philly, the region’s largest animal care and control service provider; Philly House, the largest and longest-running homeless shelter for men in Philadelphia; SpArc Philadelphia, which serves people with disabilities and their families; and Caring for Friends, an organization that offers free meal delivery to the homebound.

Last year, the ASI and its employees raised nearly $120,000 to help community nonprofits and the people of Ukraine. Here’s a breakdown of the company’s giving in 2022:

  • Ukraine Fund Drive: ASI organized a fund drive with employees and the promo products industry as a whole to provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine. The drive raised $85,000, which included matching funds given by the Norman Cohn family and Tim Andrews, ASI present and CEO.
  • United Way: Nearly $20,000 was raised though employee donations and matching funds to United Way of Bucks County, PA.
  • 18th Annual Holiday Gift Drive: Employees purchased a record-breaking $9,300 worth of toys, books and other gifts, along with cash donations, for area families living in or receiving services through a homeless shelter run by the Family Service Association of Bucks County.
  • Bucks County Emergency Homeless Shelter and Family Promise of Montco: Nearly $3,400 in cash and 900 pounds of food donated.
  • Employee Turkey and Pie Giveaway: Each November, the Cohn family thanks employees with either a free Thanksgiving turkey or pie. Each pie purchased helps the Metropolitan Area Neighborhood Nutrition Alliance (MANNA) Pie in the Sky charity of Philadelphia to deliver hot Thanksgiving dinners to people coping with a life-threatening illness and at acute nutritional risk. In addition, employees who opted out of a gift donated the equivalent cost, with a total of $2,000 given to the Philabundance food bank.
