9 Ways to Rejuvenate Your Spirit & Improve Productivity

Even the busiest souls can spare some time to rejuvenate. Whether it’s a power nap or a power walk, activities that don’t use a lot of time often produce positive results to help you through a long and stressful work week. Complete these activities and you’ll be in a better—and more productive—state of mind.

If You Have Two Minutes

Sit at your desk and do these three simple exercises:

1. Do leg extensions to work the abs and legs.

  • Grab the seat of your chair to brace yourself and extend your legs straight out in front of you so they are parallel to the floor.
  • Flex and point your toes five times. Release.
  • Repeat.

2. Stretch your back with a big hug.

  • Hug your body, placing the right hand on your left shoulder and the left hand on your right shoulder.
  • Breathe in and out, releasing the area between your shoulder blades.

3. Cross your arms to stretch the shoulders and upper back.

  • Extend one arm out straight in front of you. With the other hand, grab the elbow of the outstretched arm and pull it across your chest, stretching your shoulder and upper back muscles.
  • Hold. Release.

 If You Have Two Hours

Take a long lunch and try one of these activities:

  • Visit a museum. Whether it’s a small building filled with works from local artists, or a large city museum filled with famous pieces, stimulate your senses and take the time to really explore and reflect on your visual experience.
  • Become one with nature. Drive to a park or trail, put on some walking shoes and take a long, leisurely stroll – make sure to take deep, cleansing breaths while you walk. Consider bringing a journal to record the various plants, trees and birds you discover on your hike.
  • Hang out at the library. Get away from the noise of the office and the hum of computers. Find a comfortable, quiet seating area, and grab a few books on a subject you’re interested in, but never have the time to read up on. You’ll be surprised at how fast those two hours fly by.

9-Ways-to-Rejuvenate

If You Have Two Days

Perhaps you have some unused vacation time, plan a quick mid-week getaway to one of these locations.

  • Bed and Breakfast. Folks often forget that these gems are all around, and may even drive by one on their way to work, but bed and breakfasts, even if you go solo, are nice, homey places to get away and unwind. Check out TripAdvisor.com for user reviews.
  • Spa. It’s a no-brainer, but taking advantage of a two-day spa package can help relieve you of stress and tension. Get recommendations – you don’t want to end up coming back to work even more stressed due to a bad spa experience.
  • Soup Kitchen. Volunteer for a two-day stint of community service. Nothing puts life into perspective better than being able to help those in need, and the feeling you get when you give back is priceless.
