Studio Fun International Recalls Slap Bracelets

New York-based Studio Fun International, in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has recalled 79,000 children’s books because the slap bracelet sold with them can cause cuts. The bracelets were sold with the “DreamWorks Trolls: It’s Hug Time!” books at Barnes & Noble, Amazon.com and Walmart. There have been five reports of the metal bands wearing through the fabric covering of the bracelet, leading to cuts on hands or fingers, the CPSC said.

The products were sold between September 2016 and August 2017 for about $13 each. An additional 7,000 units were sold in Canada. The ISBN for the book, printed on the back, is 978-0-7944-3840-1. The bracelet has a flexible inner metal band wrapped in a purple fabric covered with a pink fabric flower. Studio Fun imported the items from China, the CPSC said, and no ASI-listed firms were named in the recall.
