Harland Clarke Announces Leadership Changes

Texas-based Harland Clarke (asi/219943), the distributor behind Walmart’s Promo Shop, has made changes to its leadership team. Dan Singleton, who served as Harland Clarke’s president for the last nine years, has been appointed to the new role of chief operating officer for the firm’s parent company Harland Clarke Holdings (HCH). HCH also owns Valassis, Scantron and RetailMeNot. Jana Schmidt will take over as Harland Clarke president.

Victor Nichols, CEO of HCH, says Singleton’s 29 years in the industry will serve him well in the new role. “Dan’s broad experience and deep client relationships will continue supporting growth and advancement of all of our businesses,” he said. Singleton joined Harland Clarke in 1988 after holding positions at two Fortune 1000 companies.

Nichols also lauded Schmidt’s expertise: “As a proven leader in achieving growth and maximizing innovation to deliver enhanced solutions for clients, Jana brings valuable experience to this role.” Schmidt has more than 27 years of experience in sales, marketing, operations and client advocacy focus. Most recently, she served as the president of Harland Clarke, Intelligent Solutions. Prior to that, she was CEO of Ecova, a sustainability and energy management company.

Back in August, Counselor reported that Harland Clarke was playing an integral role in powering Walmart Promo Shop, an online destination that marks the retailer’s entry into the promotional products space. The site features imprintable T-shirts, sportswear, drinkware, bags, pens and more.
