CPSC Recalls Infant Booties, Women’s Sweaters

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued official recalls for fleece infant booties from Zutano Global of New Bedford, MA, and women’s pullover and full-zip sweaters from FatFace Corp. in Wilmington, DE. No ASI-listed companies were named in the recalls.

The rubber “Z” grips on the bottoms of the China-made Cozie infant booties can detach, posing a choking hazard. Zutano has received two reports of the grips found in infants’ mouths. The FatFace sweaters, also made in China, do not meet federal flammability standards for clothing textiles. FatFace has received one report of a burn injury.

The booties are made of 70% cotton and 30% polyester fleece, and were sold in 13 solid colors and in multicolor in sizes 12-to-18 months from May 2016 to March 2017 for between $22 and $24. They were sold at G. Willikers in Portsmouth, NH; Kid Dynamo in Berkeley, CA; Magic Beans in Hyde Park, MA; Magpie Kids in Somerville, MA; Pacifier in Minneapolis; The Animal Kingdom in State College, PA; The Pump Station in Santa Monica, CA; Tip Toes in Holland, MI; and other stores nationwide, as well as online at www.amazon.com and www.zutano.com.

The Cowes overhead sweater (918043) from FatFace is 97% cotton and 3% polyester. It was sold in ivory. The sweater has a 3.5” cowl neck that can be tightened or loosened by a drawstring, and a kangaroo-style pocket at the bottom. The Yarmouth textured zip-up Cowes sweater (918041), also made of 97% cotton and 3% polyester, was sold in ivory, green and lavender colors. It has a drawstring hood, silver full-length zipper and two pockets at the bottom front. The sweaters were sold in FatFace stores in Maine, Massachusetts and Rhode Island as well as online at www.fatface.com from September 2016 through January 2017 for about $60.

Consumers of both the infant booties and women’s sweaters should stop using them immediately and contact the respective firms for refund information, the CPSC said.
