For a recent promotion on behalf of a technology company, Waco, TX-based distributor Harvey-Daco (asi/221600) decided to add the element of “luck” to help turn a good advertising opportunity into something even better.
When Harvey-Daco’s client distributed the USB SmartHub from Buztronics (asi/42963) at a trade show, they programmed all but five of the hubs to link to a FAQ page where information regarding the company’s software was provided. The remaining five SmartHubs, however, were linked to a “winner” page where a special offer was available. “The company was able to promote their software in a fun way,” says Harvey-Daco’s Alan Dean. “Plus, recipients took home a useful tech accessory that they could keep on their desks.”
The contest created excitement about the product and encouraged users to take it home. Once there, users could reach the company’s website with just the press of a button, ensuring the client’s services would always be within reach. Even better, since the company has the ability to redirect the URL at any time, this promotion could be continued indefinitely. Consequently, regardless of who the lucky recipients of the five special hubs were, everyone involved in this clever promotion ends up a winner.
